The Bermuda Football Association Referees Committee launched an initiative to introduce a referee training program in schools to help recruit, develop & train officials to support the officiating of football in Bermuda across all levels of play. Warwick Academy was selected as one of the schools to launch this pilot program in January 2024, and offered the program for students in years 7 and higher during the scheduled enrichment & activity period for middle and high school students on Thursdays, a total of 24 students received certificates for completing the course.
The program ran for the duration of the spring term with a combination of technical theory (classroom) and field practical sessions. The technical theory sessions was delivered online in a classroom at Warwick Academy.
The sessions were delivered with the support of Alan Snoddy a UEFA Technical Referee Instructor, and Simon Breivik A Premier Game & Match Officials Limited fitness instructor.
Students were required to complete an online course prior to the start of the program.
All participants received the required equipment, uniforms and ongoing support from the Bermuda Football Association, and are now eligible to officiate in youth matches on weekends to earn some compensation.
