Xavier Thomas-Bassett and his International Development Academy Valencia Under 14 Boys teammates advanced to the Round of 16 at the Mediterranean International Cup Tournament in Spain after overcoming LaLiga Academy UAE from Dubai in a penalty shootout. The score was level at 1 - 1 after regulation play.
The Warwick Academy student again produced a stellar performance with key saves for the IDA Valencia team, who will now prepare to face Cerdanyola del Vallés, a Catalan side that defeated Juventus on kicks from the Penalty Mark. The winner is matched for a potential showdown against Atletico de Madrid in the Quarter-Finals.
A spokesman for IDA Valencia commented on Thomas-Bassett’s performance and the impact on the team, “Thomas-Bassett was very confident during the whole game, transmitting that confidence to his defenders and sorting out successfully every situation of danger except for the only goal the opposition scored.”
Thomas-Bassett’s participation with IDA Valencia was possible through the partnership the Warwick Academy High Performance Football program has with the International Development Academy. He plays his club football with FC Bascome in Bermuda.
