Warwick Academy student Xavier Thomas-Bassett began participation in the Mediterranean International Cup with IDA Valencia, with his team recording a 3 - 1 win in their opening match.
Thomas-Bassett is a year 8 student at Warwick Academy and enrolled in the High Performance football program, which has a partnership with International Development Academy.
Through the partnership, IDA supports aspiring student-aathletes at the school with their ambitions to develop and play at the highest level possible. IDA coaches help to deliver camp programs at the school during holiday breaks and identify talented student-athletes for invites to international training experiences and tournaments through their various residential programs.
The MIC is one of the largest youth tournaments in the world and annually attracts major clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Arsenal, PSG, and Ajax.
Thomas-Bassett and his IDA Valencia teammates defeated Soccer+ Guadeloupe in the Under 14 Division Group play, with a strong performance by the goalkeeper. Thomas-Bassett plays his club football with FC Bascome in Bermuda.
