Nesbeth & Florida State Advance in NCAA Tournament
Leilanni Nesbeth’s teammate Jordynn Dudley scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute, and the top-seeded Florida State Women's Soccer team held on to a 1 - 0 victory over Texas A&M in an intense and physical game at the Seminole Soccer Complex. FSU has now made the Round of 16 in the past seven seasons and 20 out of the past 22 seasons.
FSU controlled possession early in the match, but it was the Aggies who were able to threaten first as Mia Pante's header just went off the top of the woodwork and was eventually cleared by the Seminoles. FSU didn't record a shot until the 32nd minute and had their best look in the 39th minute when Lauren Flynn flicked a ball with her heel that just went wide of the goal. The teams went into the half locked at 0 with the Aggies holding a 4-3 shots advantage.
FSU came out of the half and got some great looks from both Taylor Huff and Onyi Echegini in the 50th minute. FSU continued to threaten and finally broke through in the 55th minute. Beata Olsson placed a perfect ball via a header to Dudley from about 30 yards out. Dudley took three touches to collect herself and beat the two defenders in front of her and struck it past the goalie for her 11th goal of the season which is tied for fourth most goals in school history by a freshman.
The Aggies were not done yet and threatened multiple times over the last 30 minutes, Cristina Roque continued to make save after save to keep the Aggies off the board. Roque had a season-high five saves which is her highest save total since the Elite 8 matchup against Arkansas last season. Roque improved to 55-2-6 in the goal over her career.
