A couple of goals in the opening 14:30 of play including one from Nia Christopher led the Towson University Women's Soccer team to a 2 - 1 victory over George Mason, its first win over George Mason since 2003.
Christopher and Phoebe Canoles scored on Towson's first two attempts on goal in the fifth and 15th minutes to give them the early two-goal lead. George Mason scored in the 17th minute, with Towson holding a one-goal lead the rest of the way.
Towson scored on its first shot in the fifth minute as Canoles found Christopher racing towards the right side of the box. A hard kick from Christopher deflected off a George Mason defender for a goal, giving Towson a 1 - 0 lead.
Marli Butterfield
Marli Butterfield and her Glenville State Women's Soccer teammates finished their non-conference road trip with a 2 – 0 loss to old West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluefield State.
Butterfield would come close to giving Glenville State the lead, creating some space with her amazing speed, but the Bluefield State Big Blue keeper would make the save.
