The Referee's Committee of the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) announced that Antoine Augustus and Tashun Simons have been selected as National Assistant Referees to officiate in the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) 2016 CONCACAF Under-15 Girls’ Championships in Orlando, Florida from August 9th – 21st, 2016.

Twenty-two (22) nations from across the CONCACAF region including Bermuda, as well as invitee Venezuela from CONMEBOL, have signed on to participate in the tournament, designed to encourage development for youth players from across the Confederation, while promoting competition at the international level for all member associations – including those for which few opportunities have previously existed at this age level.

Scheduled to participate (in alphabetical order by region):

CFU (16): Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Santa Lucia, St Vincent & Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, US Virgin Islands

UNCAF (3): Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua

North America (3): Canada, Mexico, United States

CONMEBOL (1): Venezuela

BFA Referee Committee Chairman Crenstant Williams, is extremely delighted and proud that these two individuals have been selected to represent Bermuda at an International Tournament.

“It has been at least fifteen years since we have had persons participate in an international competition. One of the Referees Committees long term goals is to have a minimum of two persons on the FIFA list by 2018, so their selection is a step in the right direction. It is the hope of the committee that this opportunity for our local referees to be showcased on the international stage will attract more individuals to officiate locally.”

A Referee Course has been arranged for anyone interested in officiating this upcoming season, persons can attend sessions at the BFA office every Monday from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.

A full referee course will take place on August 17th - 21st with sessions taking place during the week 5:30pm – 9:30pm and on the weekend 9:30am – 3:30pm.

The Referees Committee Chairman said, “I would like to send special thanks to Lyndon Raynor, Gregory Grimes, Anthony Francis, David Sabir, Mark Wade, Troy Lewis, Larry Mussenden and Earl Basden for the continued support and encouragement.”

“The committee is very confident that these two officials will represent Bermuda to the best of their ability and make us all proud,” concluded Williams.
