Haiti Defeated, But BFA Officials Need to Watch Closely

IslandStats.com
Host nation Haiti suffered what some are calling a shock 3-0 defeat to Puerto Rico on the third day of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women's Under 20 Finals.

Bermuda Football Association officials should be looking closely at this as it is known for countries throughout the Caribbean working the tables to enable passage to the next round of a Tournament.

Haiti went into the match as favorites, with Puerto Rico coming off a 1-0 defeat to Group A rivals Bermuda.

Haiti can only qualify with a big win over Bermuda and with all eyes already on what is going on in Football Globally officials will be asking questions.

The match began in a competitive fashion as both teams knew a win was the best possible result.

Haiti controlled the game from the start, moving the ball in great fashion, and put Puerto Rico under early pressure. But Puerto Rico would defend well in the early stages of the first half, frustrating the hosts.

Puerto Rico took the lead in the 24th minute when Mariana Lopez latched on to a deep ball from her midfield and calmly placed the ball in the right corner, giving her team the 1-0 advantage.

Haiti would try their best to recover by moving the ball at a faster pace but organized defending by Puerto Rico saw the first half finish 1-0.

The second half began similar to the first, as Haiti would again dominate most of possession, but Puerto Rico kept counter-attacking. As frustration escalated for the hosts, confidence grew for the Puerto Ricans, who started to press the Haitian back line.

A second breakthrough would come for Puerto Rico in the 78th minute as Mirianee Zaragoza headed home from close range to make it 2-0.

Puerto Rico would inflict insult to injury in the 91st minute after poor defending by Haiti enabled Majorie Martinez to tap in from close range to end the match 3-0 in favor of Puerto Rico.
