Eve & Stoke City Go Down
Dale Eve and his Stoke City Under 21 teammates crashed out of the Staffordshire FA Senior Cup at the Quarter-Final stage following defeat to Walsall Wood.

Glynn Hodges' side failed to progress to the semi-finals of the competition following a late hosts penalty at Oak Park.

Midfielder Robbie Parry had given Stoke City an early lead before Walsall Wood secured victory following a Leon Taylor effort just before half-time and a Drew Aiton spot-kick 10 minutes from time.

It was a battling affair in the Black Country with City struggling to break down their opponents who fought for every ball.

Charlie Ward captained the side, while Hodges also handed starts to Johnville-Renee Pringle at right back and the impressive Parry who looked bright on the wing.

Stoke City dominated possession inside the opening stages on what was a cut up and boggy looking pitch.

Hodges' side looked to instantly exploit the wings, with a number of dangerous crosses failing to fall to find anyone capitalize at the far post early on.

Their momentum was rewarded inside 15 minutes when Parry opened the scoring after beating his man to flick the ball in at the near post from a left-wing corner.

City continued to press in the final third as Ollie Roberts saw his goal bound strike from outside the box charged down and deflect for a corner.

The hosts were certainly on the back foot before mustering an opportunity for themselves on 20 minutes.

Tom Evans burst down the right hand side and pulled an accurate pass back toward Aiton, who delivered an air shot as the ball ran past him.

Stoke goalkeeper Eve was then called into action on the half hour mark when Max Black's sharp hit stung the gloves of the shot-stopper in what was otherwise a comfortable save.

Stoke could have doubled their lead moments later when Nathan Ricketts-Hopkinson used his pace to latch onto a long ball.

The striker got on the wrong side of his marker, but dragged a weak effort wide of the far post.

City were made to rue that opportunity five minutes from half-time when the hosts took advantage of a mix-up at the back.

Eve ran from his goal-line as he and Mason Watkins failed to deal with the bouncing ball allowing Taylor to pick at the loose ball and level matters going into the break - despite the best efforts of Liam Edwards chasing back.

City again looked bright on the ball and created the first chance on goal, despite Walsall Wood looking sharper minutes after the interval.

Tomi Adeloye did well to connect with Parry's low cross from the right following an impressive run into the box.

The forward's scuffed shot looked to be trickling into the far corner before Wood goalkeeper Kisiel threw himself on the ball.

Walsall Wood then mounted some pressure of their own just after the hour mark.

Captain Harry Harris' misjudged shot looped over the Stoke backline, falling kindly for goalscorer Taylor who failed to hit the target on the turn before Daniel Holgate saw a long range strike go over moments later.

Stoke looked lively down the wings, particularly down the right with the pace of Pringle, but struggled to materialize a glaring threat on their opponent's goal.

The hosts were then handed a glorious opportunity with a dubious penalty decision on 75 minutes.

City failed to clear a corner and despite Edwards winning the ball just inside the area, Aiton went down with the follow through - prompting referee Ross Granford to point to the spot following pressure from the Wood crowd and players.

Aiton then stepped up and sent Eve the wrong way by firing low into the corner to give the home side an unlikely lead.

Stoke City scrambled for a late equalizer as the game drew to a close.

Ward fired a free-kick just inches wide of the far post from 20 yards but Stoke struggled to breakdown Walsall Wood and were succumbed to defeat.
