Akeyla Furbert and her University of South Carolina Aiken Women's Soccer teammates dropped a 5-0 decision at Columbus State in the Peach Belt Conference Quarterfinal.
Furbert’s team was out-shot 13-2 in the opening half, but the team found itself trailing by just a 2-0 score entering intermission.
Trailing 1-0 after a score at the 7:52 mark, Taylor Simmons rattled off a shot in the 10th minute that was stopped by Maylyn Parsons. Hazel Kelly blasted a shot toward the goal in the 41st minute, but it sailed just wide of the frame.
Furbert took the team's first attempt in the second half, but it was turned away by the Cougars' keeper. Kim Beyer nearly connected on a shot at the 71:08 mark, but it went just high of the crossbar.
For the match, Nicole Cranny played all 90 minutes between the pipes. She stopped seven shots in the contest.
It marked the last contest for seniors Deirdre Ball, Kim Beyer, Caroline Gillespie, Ella McDaniels and Haley Pipkin. The match was also the team's first appearance in the postseason since the 2008 season.
