Coach Dennis Brown
IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Football Association announced the preliminary training squad list of players selected to begin preparations for the 2015 CONCACAF Championships and 2016 CFU / CONCACAF U17 World Cup Qualifiers.

Dennis Brown has been appointed as the Head Coach for the above mentioned international fixtures, and will be assisted by National Academy Director, Richard Todd, and other members of the NA coaching staff in preparing the player pool for competition.

After assessment of the 2000 & 2001 NA player pools, a preliminary training squad has been selected. The squad includes both local based and overseas players who have been identified by the coaching staff.

Players not listed in the preliminary squad list may be invited to join training at a later period as coaches will be observing and assessing matches in the respective age groups during the BFA youth and schools leagues.

The invited players will commence weekly training on Tuesdays (mandatory for all players on island) and Thursdays (players not impacted by regularly scheduled club practices) from 5:30-7:00 PM @ BFA Field in Prospect. These sessions will begin on November 4th, 2014.

In 2013 Bermuda entered the inaugural CONCACAF U15 Championships in the Cayman Islands, advancing to the Semi-Finals as group winners before losing on penalty kicks to Guatemala and settling for 4th place after a 2-0 defeat to El Salvador in the 3rd / 4th place playoff match. Bermuda was awarded the Fair Play award and had several players recognized for their outstanding performances during the tournament.

The team, led by Head Coach Andrew Bascome, was invited to participate in the U16 Copa De Mexico Tournament this past August in Mexico City as a result of their performances at the 2013 CONCACAF U15 Championships.

BFA National Academy Director, Richard Todd, said, “We will begin the next cycle of preparation for this player age pool with a view toward enhancing our readiness for the 2016 World Cup Qualifiers for the U17 Men. The U15 CONCACAF Championships in 2015 will serve as an important developmental tournament towards helping the players and coaches gain exposure to, and knowledge of potential opponents from the CONCACAF region. We will begin a steady build up toward next summer’s event with the overseas based players joining in training camps upon their return. Head Coach Brown will have adequate time over the next 17 months to best prepare the team for the 2016 World CupU17 Men’s Qualifiers. The experiences gained during the previous group’s cycle of preparation and from the events will serve as a valuable resource.”

Bermuda Football Association Player Development Chairman, Mark Wade said, “As we put the final touches on the Strategic plan, we have reviewed our programming over the past 8 years and chart a course for better performances. We are pleased with our record at this level and look forward to the new crop of players under the guidance of Dennis Brown and the Academy Director to continue and improve Bermuda’s standing in this age group.”
