The Thomas Men's Soccer team that features eight Bermuda players on their roster collected a major conference win as they defeated Maine Maritime 3-1 at Smith Field.
The eight include, Winston Trott, Zeon Robinson, Mikal Simmons, Marcus Johnson, London Steede-Jackson, Tre Ming, Khamisi Lightbourne and Chris Godfrey.
Dakota Duplissie had two goals, Ming had one, and Joakim Sternas recorded eight saves on nine shots faced in the victory.
Thomas got going quickly when Duplissie fired a shot off the crossbar, but followed his shot and put home the rebound just 2:23 into the match for the 1-0 lead.
Both teams traded shots for the remainder of the first half, as Thomas accumulated 10 total with four on goal, and Maine Maritime had 13 shots with six on goal.
Sternas made four saves in the first 20 minutes and made six overall for Thomas in the first half to keep Maine Maritime off the scoreboard.
In the second half, Maine Maritime were able to tie the score up at 1-1 on a tremendous diving header by Ike Doiron from Gabriel Warren.
Thomas would waste no time responding, as Duplissie would net his second of the game, this time from a Lightbourne cross to put Thomas on top, 2-1. Three minutes later, Ming dribbled past defenders to create separation and fired a shot by Maine Maritime keeper Zachary Elwell to extend the Thomas lead to 3-1.
That lead would hold until the final buzzer, as Thomas collected its fourth North Atlantic Conference win on the season and remains one of only three teams in the NAC (Colby-Sawyer and New England College) with one conference loss.
Thomas made the most of its chances, scoring on half of their shots on goal. Maine Maritime held a 23-16 shot advantage, but Sternas denied them on eight of nine shots on goal.
