PartnerRe Ltd. announced the first annual Kenneth ‘Smokey’ Thompson Memorial Football Tournament to take place at BAA on Saturday and Sunday, September 20th and 21st.
The Youth Football Tournament was created in the honor and memory of Kenneth ‘Smokey’ Thompson, a very much loved and respected employee at PartnerRe.
Thompson was also a well-known taxi driver and a great ambassador for Bermuda. He cared for others and was an inspiration to young people. PartnerRe’s President and CEO Costas Miranthis said, “We could not find a better way to celebrate the life of our good friend and colleague Smokey. To put on an annual football tournament in his name for Bermuda’s young people is a tribute of his character and how he touched others”.
The Kenneth ‘Smokey’ Thompson Memorial Football Tournament, hosted by BAA, will welcome 18 youth teams from the Under 8, Under 10 and Under 12 Age Groups to this year’s event.
There will be a total of 32 games played over the two day span.
Kenny Thompson, director of football at BAA and ironically of no relation to Mr. Thompson said, “Although I never met him, I know we have at least one thing in common and that is a passion for football. This tournament, which is graciously sponsored by PartnerRe, will become an annual fixture in the youth football calendar”.
Families are encouraged to come out and support our young football players and honor one of Bermuda’s finest ambassadors.
