Bermuda 4 Guadeloupe 3

Bermuda’s Starting Line-up: Jahquill Hill, Quintonio Lema, Terrance Webb, William White, Alanzo Parsons, Dakai Grant, Jaz Ratteray-Smith, Jibri Salaam, Zaire Burchall, Rai Simons, Chae Brangman

The Bermuda Under 20 Men’s team began competing in their CFU Under 20 World Cup Group 2 Qualifiers in Dominican Republic.

Guadeloupe opened the scoring early in the match, but Bermuda hit back when Rattery-Smith was released behind the defense and toe poked the ball past the keeper making it 1-1. Bermuda went ahead 2 – 1 when a good ball from Burchall over the top of the defense saw Simons out pace the defense to score to the keepers right.

Bermuda took the 2 – 1 lead in the half time break.

The second half started with Guadaloupe stepping up the physical play, Webb is the recipient of a nasty tackle with left him writhing in pain. After some treatment he re-entered the pitch, minutes later Bermuda went ahead 3 – 1, another good ball through the middle sees Simons once again out pace the defense to score past the keeper.
Bermuda extended their lead to 4 – 1 with Simons completing his hat-trick finishing off a very good Bermuda move that involved 5 players all combining to unleash an overlapping Lema who picked out Simons who only needed to tap it in.

Bermuda made two subs with Kiuno Cann coming in for Salaam and Justin Donawa replacing Brangman. Bermudas then concede a soft goal making the score 4 -2. Bermuda looked to shore things up bringing on Chikosi Basden for Burchall.

With just minutes remaining Bermuda concede again as Guadaloupe’s skipper scored from a poorly cleared corner. His first time volley was hit with venom making it 4 – 3.

Coach Dennis Brown said, “Overall a good team performance after going down 1-0. We made an immediate response which showed me that they were really focused. The learning curve is to remain focused even though we were comfortable.”

Brown continued, “It was excellent team play on all the goals and we must improve on our game management in the next two games.”

“We saw some Great finishing from Rattery-Smith and Simons,” Brown went on to say.

Brown concluded, “With Antigua winning 3-0 against the Dominican Republic, our destiny is in our own hands.
