IslandStats.com
Rugby Americas North (RAN) is excited to announce the venue for the 2024 Rugby Americas North Men’s Under-19 and Senior Women’s XVs Tournament alongside Federación Mexicana de Rugby (FMRU).

The five-day event will take place July 10th – 14th in Mexico City – held at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México’s (UNAM) Deportivo Alfredo Harp Helu grounds, where the 2022 RAN Sevens was successfully held. Both competition brackets will play 15-a-side matches as they did in 2023, continuing to emphasize the growth and establishment of this globally recognized format within RAN’s region. Subject to confirmation of participating countries, the tournament will follow the following format of 15-a-side matches:

Day 1 | Wednesday, July 10th:
Two Men’s U19 matches per team.

Day 2 | Thursday, July 11th:
Two Men’s U19 matches per team and two Women’s matches per team.

Day 3 | Friday, July 12th:
Two Women’s matches per team. Men’s U19 rest day.

Day 4 | Saturday, July 13th:
Men’s U19 Finals; each team plays one match with 35-minute halves. Women’s rest day.

Day 5 | Sunday, July 14th:
Women’s Finals; each team plays one, full 80-minute match.

Note: on Days 1-3, all matches will be two halves of 20 minutes each

“RAN are delighted to host the Men’s U19s and Senior Women’s XVs in Mexico, a Union that has both successfully supported and hosted Sevens and Men’s U19 events in the past,” said RAN General Manager Niall Brooks. “2024 marks an important milestone for our region’s Senior Women’s 15 a-side rugby as the competition will culminate in full, 80-minute international matches for all teams with World Rugby ranking points at stake, furthering the development of the Women’s game.”

“For Rugby Mexico, it’s an honor having been awarded as organizer for the RAN XVs Tournament for Senior Women’s and Men’s Under19 categories,” said FMRU President, Ernesto Sainz. “We strongly believe that for the athletes of our Region, competition is everything and by bringing them these kinds of opportunities we are helping to develop more rugby structures locally and internationally. We embrace and recognize the enthusiasm of all regional Unions that are pushing forward so hard the internal and international activities.”

“Our community in Mexico is thrilled to support this year’s RAN XVs tournament and our national teams, especially the Senior Women’s side that will have the opportunity to earn a World Rugby ranking for the first time in history. Best of luck to everyone!”
