Bermuda Rugby Leagues Round Up

Ladies Division

Mariners continue their remarkable start to the fledgling season with a another dominating performance - putting Mad Hatter champions Renegades to the sword with a 5 try win 36 - 0.

The Mariners would get Try’s from Karly Alleyne, Apryl Jackson, Lysmeiri Santana-Suazo, Becky Galley and Amanda Swan with Gina Newson kicking 3 Conversions.

Police rebounded from the demolishment last weekend and prevailed in an eight Try battle against a tough Teachers outfit 34 - 12.

The Police would get 2 Try’s from Estienne Coetzee, while Jess Wagner, Fiona Donaldson, Olivia Smart and Meagan Jackson would all add a Try each, the Police would also get Conversions from Fiona Donaldson and Mika Tomita. The Teachers would get Try’s from Cherish Woodley, Najee Pitt-Clarke and a Conversion from Helen McHugh.

Men’s Division

Men’s action saw three games in the Card with two league games and an exhibition match against visiting New York Police Department.

Police will rue this games against Teachers going down 31 – 24, the Teachers would get 2 Try’s from Corey Boyce and single Try’s from Anthony Cupidore, Steve Wallace and Aldo Campbell, they would also get 2 Conversions from George Peets and a single from David Porter. The Police got 2 Try’s from Darren Richardson, with Dylan Marshall and Peter Lewington with Dan Cole kicking 2 Conversions.

In the second game of the day Renegades remained poised against a resurgent Mariners who kept the game competitive until the last quarter before falling 41 – 19. The Mariners would get 2 Try’s from David Rorke, while Kayote Wainwright-Basden added the other, they would also get 2 Conversions from Paul Kelly.

The last game of the day saw a veteran Police team taking in a stout NYPD touring side bolstered by some local talent.

In a see saw match NYPD took advantage of some early mistakes and scored early. Police responded with a great individual effort by Mike Kane 7-5. The game went back and forth with NYPD edging into the lead 30-22. In the last 5 minutes. Bermuda Police fought valiantly and clawed it back to 30-29 but in the end they came up short in a highly entertaining game.
