Gary Taylor IslandStats.com Gary Taylor and Tatsuhiko Hoshina competed in the Ironman Maryland event. Taylor competed in the 55-59 Age Group and training partner Hoshina, who races for Japan now and is the CEO of Tokio Millennium Re competed in the 50-54 Age Group.
Ironman Maryland began with a 2.4-mile Swim in the fresh water of the Choptank River on the Delmarva Peninsula. The 112-mile Bike course took the athletes through Dorchester County and into the aforementioned wildlife refuge. The course was flat, fast and scenic. The day finished with a 26.2-mile run on flat country roads offering numerous straightaways—opportunities for athletes to size up their competition.
Hoshina clocked 11:32:05 finishing 331st overall and 28th in his Age Group. Hoshina clocked 1:05:16 on the Swim, 5:46:00 on the Bike and 4:21:11 on the Run Course.
Taylor finished 574th overall and 15th in his Age Group clocking a time of 12:28:53. Taylor came out of the water in a time of 53:49, before clocking 6:04:26 on the Bike Course before closing out with a time of 5:09:27 on the Run Course.
