Despite nursing a long standing shoulder injury, Duncan Scott completed the tough Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon.
The race is one of the oldest on the Triathlon calendar and includes a 1.5 mile swim in cold water and with strong currents from just off Alcatraz Island (yes the famous prison in San Francisco Bay), a half mile run to transition, an 18 mile bike course that takes in the Golden Gate Bridge and a tough 8 mile cross country run that includes a section over a deep sand beach and a 400 steps climb up a cliff in the middle of the run known as the Sand Ladder
Duncan completed the swim in 40:57, he then had the first transition which including the 1/2 mile run took 10:07. His bike time was 1:05:33 and his second transition was 2:58. Interestingly each athlete’s time for the 400 step Sand Ladder is posted separately with Scott’s time being 3:05 for a run time of 1:04:38 finishing in an overall time of 3:04:11.
Scott finished 55th in the Men’s 50-54 Age Group.
