Bermuda Triathlete Flora Duffy reflected on what she called “A little trip down under.”
Duffy captured the Women’s XTERRA Asia-Pacific Championships Title clocking a time of 2:33.07.
Duffy on her Twitter page wrote, “A last minute trip to Australia for the Asia Pacific Xterra Championships, 1st place. Mission accomplished and lots of memories.”
“The race was set in beautiful Callala Bay, a few hours outside of Sydney. I am not usually impressed with a beach (Bermuda has the best beaches in the world), but this beach didn’t disappoint. I had a strong swim exiting the first swim lap just behind Dan Hugo. There was a tough 100m beach run in between laps just to keep things honest,” Duffy was quoted as writing.
Duffy went on, “On to the bike I quickly passed Nicky Samuels, found my rhythm and continued to snake through the single track. It was a fun, fast, fairly technical course. It tested my skill level but I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Duffy concluded, “On to the run in first, with no idea how far ahead I was. I’m not really a fan of running off the front not knowing what is going on behind. Can make for a nerve racking 12kms. Turns out I had a 4 minute lead going onto the run, and ended up winning by 7mins. I was pretty excited to cross the line in first. I came into this race wanting to win, and knowing I could, so to execute it just how I wanted meant a lot!”
