Otis Ingham IslandStats.com Another Thursday, another day of dodgy weather, however, for the third week in a row things brightened up in time for the Argo Re Summer Series Super Sprint to take place.
There was a small turnout this week, with contributing factors being the poor weather outlook and the absence of numerous local athletes at the World Championships in London.
The event was hosted by Alan Gilbertson along with Janet Harrison who took the responsibility of the safety marshal.
Two relative newcomers were first time winners as Otis Ingham and Lesley-Jane Smith were the Male and Female winners. The event also featured a first-time triathlete, Joseph Lau, who finished strongly in a very respectable time.
Ingham powered ahead of a small field thanks to his improving swim technique and strong biking skills. He did well to post a good time given the lack of close competition to push him clocking a time of 26:51.
Smith quickly asserted herself, being first out of the water. She then spent the race looking over her shoulder looking for the next female finisher, but needn't have worried when she crossed the line in a time of 31.38.
Deborah Pharaoh-Williams was next and earned bragging rights over husband Howard Williams. Admittedly it helped that Howard retired with a flat tyre on the first bike lap!
Laura Hope and Rebecca Harrison, both very capable young athletes enjoyed a sociable chat during the Bike and Run after all why get too hot and sticky during a race?
Tammy Ingham made a comeback from injury, she made the swim look like a stroll in the park completing the race in a time of 36.44.
