Despite another day of sunshine, swirling winds continued to play havoc with club selection during the third round of the Canadian Tour’s Florida Winter Qualifying School on Wednesday.
At stake are 13 fully exempt cards with the next eight and ties earning Non-exempt status on the 2008 Canadian Tour.
After a three over 75, second round leader Michael Nicoletti is still in command with a two stroke lead over Ryan Yip who fired a 74. After 54 holes, Nicoletti sits at four under 212.
Dwayne Pearman who shot 76 finds himself tied for 15th at 222. Pearman will Tee Off at 9:10am in a bid to move up three places for a full exempt card.
American Daniel Im is alone in third after shooting 71 while Jason Moon (74), Ryan Cairns (73) and Bob Niger (70) have a share of fourth at 217.
South Korean Jay Choe (76) is alone in seventh at 218, one ahead of American Garrett Frank (73).
Zach Doran struggled home with a 79 yet didn’t lose much ground and sits in a tie for 9th. The Californian, who missed out on a card last fall, is in a group at 220 with Winn Smith (73) who is aiming to regain Canadian Tour status, Derek Oakey (73) and Brian O’Flaherty (76).
Americans Justin Itzen (77) and Justin Whitlock (78) are on the cusp of full status in a tie for thirteenth.
Behind them sits a traffic jam of 16 players within five strokes of exempt status.
With just 18 holes left, anyone at 227 or better has a realistic shot of at least limited status for the 2008 season. However, players are aware that just one mistake on Thursday may mean the difference between joy and heartache.
