Butterfield Bermuda Championship 2023 Day Two
The First Round of the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship concluded at Port Royal Golf Course, Southampton this morning. The field of 132 players are playing for a $6.5 million purse and the champion will receive $1.17 million and 500 FedExCup points.

Alex Noren is the first-round leader by two strokes after tying the tournament and a course record for a low round with a 10-under, 61. He tied the record set by Taylor Pendrith in the second round in 2021. Noren also set new tournament records for the lowest opening round and most birdies in a round, carding 11 birdies with a lone bogey on the day.

Oliver Betschart and Michael Sims were tied as the top Bermudians in the field after the opening round, finishing at 2-over par of 73. Sims and Betschart are playing in the same group for the first and second rounds.

Fellow Bermudians Scott Roy and Eric West are competing as well.


The second round of the 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship was suspended due to darkness at 5:30 p.m. The round will resume Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m.

Noren is the second-round leader in the clubhouse by two strokes after setting a new tournament record for a low 36-hole score with a -15, 61-66=127.

Sims is the top Bermudian in the field after finishing at 1-over par with a 73-70=143. Betschart, playing with Sims for the first and second rounds, finished at 6-over par with a 73-75=148. Fellow Bermudians Roy finished 11-over par, 77-76=153, and West is currently 6-over par, 77 with the second round not completed yet.
