Yesterday September 25th marked Three years ago to the day ORACLE TEAM USA completed an incredible comeback to win the America's Cup.
The team had been trailing Emirates Team New Zealand by a daunting 8-1 score. The first team to win 9 points would win the Cup.
And then, improbably, ORACLE TEAM USA started to win. As the gap on the leaderboard closed, the confidence of the team grew.
And on September 25th, 2013, the team was in position to complete one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history.
"We've come back from a very deep hole," said skipper Jimmy Spithill on the eve of the final race. "We want this.
"We're not going to leave anything in the tank. The boys will find another level to go to. I'm going to ask for everything and of course I know they'll deliver."
Off the starting line, ORACLE TEAM USA fell behind by a length at the first mark, but on the upwind leg, Spithill asked, and his team delivered a superhuman effort. The American defender made the pass and sailed into history.
