Slingsby Confirms Bermuda SailGP Startline

IslandStats.com
Tom Slingsby has confirmed the team will be on the start line of Bermuda next month.

It comes after Australia sustained serious damage in a collision with a race mark in Christchurch after which Slingsby cast uncertainty on whether the team could race at SailGP’s next event in Bermuda.

But Slingsby has now confirmed repairs to the F50 will be made in time and Australia will be on the start line of Bermuda on May 4-5.

Speaking on social media, Slingsby said: “The good news is that we have a new front beam on the way from the UK and we’re going to send some people over who will fit that to our boat and we will be racing in Bermuda.”

Looking ahead, Slingsby said he was looking forward to bouncing back from the devastating 12-event point and 8-season-point penalties incurred for the collision in Christchurch.

“It doesn’t look like we’ll be winning the season points this year, but we have a chance of winning the Grand Final so that’s what all our efforts are going to be focused on,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to Bermuda, getting back there and we want to get back in the game and try and make that Final in San Francisco – the Aussie team will be back stronger at the next event.”
