The second day of racing at the 2024 ILCA Under 21 European Championships & Open European Trophy drew to a close today. The event is hosted by Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença in Majorca, Spain.
This year’s event has attracted 202 sailors, with 137 competing in ILCA 7 including Sebastian Kempe, and 65 in ILCA 6, representing 36 nations, including 28 from Europe.
Like yesterday, the day began with a one-hour postponement on shore due to a lack of wind. Eventually, the first warning signal was given around 1:00 pm for the initial group in the sequence, the ILCA 6. Following a general recall, the ILCA 7 yellow fleet commenced with a clear start.
Both fleets managed to complete their races promptly. Unfortunately, the ILCA 7 blue fleet race had to be abandoned due to unstable conditions.
The ILCA Men’s Championship only saw one race sailed on the day and saw a new front-runner in Ole Schweckendiek from Germany, who secured a second-place finish today, propelling him to the top of the fleet with 14 points.
The provisional podium has also seen a shuffle, with Bartosz Andrzejak from Poland now occupying the second position with 21 points. Third place overall for Enrico Tanferna from Italy with 24.
It was not the best day for Kempe as he crossed the line in 42nd place and now is currently in 31st place with 63 points.
