Six Bermuda youth sailors began competing in Salinas Ecuador on Day One of the International Optimist Dinghy Association's (IODA) South American Championships.
The team of six were chosen after a qualification series of 20 races to determine the top sailors.
Representing Bermuda are Jordan Etemadi, Sebastian Kempe, Luke Madeiros, Rian McDonnell-Geraghty, Tayte Stefaniuk and Leyli Walker. They are accompanied by their Coach Pablo Weber.
Etemadi is leading the Bermuda Fleet after two races with finishes of 25th and 6th, he has 31 points and is in 36th place.
McDonnell-Geraghty finds himself in 48th place with 39 points, while Kempe is in 78th with 50 points.
Walker recoded finishes of 19th and 41st to end the day 94th with 60 points, while Madeiros is 98th with 63 points after finishes of 38th and 25th and Stefaniuk is currently in 102nd.
