Driven by technology, ORACLE TEAM USA is seeking a competitive advantage in the quest to capture a third consecutive America’s Cup. The team is using hard data to design and build the fastest boat, and to improve performance.
“The data collection and what we do with it is one of the most important things in this game. Over the next two years, we’re going to use that process to make the boat go faster, help the sailors make better decisions, and ultimately, that will make the difference,” said skipper Jimmy Spithill.
Through the Oracle database, the team is in essence able to travel back in time and reference more than 240 GB of data collected each day. This information is monitored real-time on the water, and is stored, processed and analyzed with the ultimate goal of winning.
