Countdown to America's Cup World Series Regatta

Picture curtsey of Sander van der Borch

Artemis Racing skipper, Nathan Outteridge (AUS) says the team has had two good practice days at Portsmouth, venue for next weekend's America's Cup World Series Regatta, writes Sander van der Borch / Artemis Racing.

Sailing in the one-design AC45-F, Outteridge says there is a bit of an adjustment from the open design, AC-45 Surrogate that the team has been sailing in Bermuda.

'We've had two good days on the water so far. We sailed the first in 16-18kts, and got her up and foiling. We're having to re-learn how to sail these boats. They are a little different to what we have been sailing in Bermuda recently.

'There are ropes all over the boat. We have to remember what these boats are like to sail and getting used to sailing with a tiller again.

'It has been a big challenge.

'Yesterday we sailed against Japan for a bit, in very light winds. It is amazing how different these boats are when you are foiling at 20kts and not foiling. So we had to remember all the old tricks from back in the day when you are using the Code Zero, dropping boards and lifting boards, plus furling and more.

'It has been a busy few days here and we are really looking forward to getting out on the race-course today.

'There is racing organized for this afternoon - with four boats racing, Japan, Oracle, ourselves and BAR.

'The breeze is quite strong - about 15-20kts from the east.

'We're looking forward to getting on the Solent, giving it a crack and getting into it, again.
