Greenslade & St. Mary's Win Prosser Trophy

Joshua Greenslade and his No. 5th ranked St. Mary's College of Maryland Sailing teammates removed one monkey of their back with a come-from-behind win at the Prosser Trophy Team Race hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy at Robert Crown Center.

The Prosser Trophy Team Race served as the Conference Championship Regatta for the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association and featured the top-8 teams of 53 Colleges and Universities within MAISA.

The top four finishers qualified for the ICSA/APS Team Race National Championships to be hosted by St. Mary's beginning May 31st - June 2nd.

St. Mary’s claimed first place in the eight-team field with an 18-3 record for a berth in the team race nationals. St. Mary's has finished as the runner-up in back-to-back team race National Championships (2012 and 2013). No. 3 Georgetown University (17-4), No. 7 Navy (15-6), and No. 14 Old Dominion University (10-11) also qualified to compete for the second jewel of sailing's Triple Crown.

St. Mary's posted a 5-2 mark in Round 1, falling to ODU and Georgetown, after the break, a second round robin was completed in which St. Mary’s recorded a perfect 7-0 mark against the University of Pennsylvania, ODU, Navy, No. 15 Hobart/William Smith Colleges, Georgetown, No. 13 Fordham University, and Cornell University. After two rounds, Georgetown was in the lead with a 13-1 record after going a perfect 7-0 in Round 1 while St. Mary's was second with a 12-2 mark.

The third and final round was completed in an uncooperative breeze at Greenberry Point in the Annapolis Harbor and saw St. Mary’s go 6-1 after falling to Cornell. However, St. Mary's took the lead from Georgetown who were only able to win four of their seven matchups. Navy also tallied a 6-1 record in Round 3 with its only loss coming against St. Mary's.

The skippers for the champions were seniors Fletcher Sims, Greenslade, and John Wallace as well as junior Jacob LaDow.

The supportive crew consisted of seniors Kelley Merryman and Nicole DeAngeli, juniors Thad Bench and Allison Shane and first-years Shelby Jacobs and Greer Wattson.
