Burgess Voted Season MVP

Blake & Kyle Burgess
Christchurch School Varsity Sailing Team Captain and senior Blake Burgess was Voted Most Valuable Skipper for the Fall Season.

Burgess attends Christchurch with his sophomore brother Kyle Burgess who is also on the sailing team.

Blake Burgess said, “Overall, we had a very good fall season. We started the season with a lot of new sailors who hadn't really sailed at the high school level. We trained really hard, sailing in all types of conditions and over the season we improved our physical fitness as well as boat handling.”

“Team racing has always been a weak point for us but this weekend, one of the best judges in the country said that she thought Christchurch showed the best team racing she saw at the regatta, concluded Blake Burgess.

The Burgess’ and their teammates finished 1st at the ATLANTIC COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS, 1st during the MASSA Fleet Racing Championships against schools from New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia.

They finished 2nd in the VISA Fleet & Team Racing Series to finish in 2nd place of the VISA State Championships and they finished 3rd in the MASSA Team Racing Championships, they were the only team to win 7 consecutive races against schools from New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia.
