Harbour Swim Club Concludes Short Course Summer Meet

Jack Harvey
Harbour swimmers impressed after only 6 weeks of pool training at the National Sports Center.

Swimmers achieved Personal Best times in more than 75% of swims.

Seventeen Year Old Jack Harvey, set some impressive baselines for the newly established Harbour Club Record Books. Although not a sanctioned meet, Harvey put on a wonderful display of the level at which he’s currently swimming. His time of 56.66 in the 100 Backstroke surpassed the Bermuda OPEN Age Group Record time of 58.55 set by Ronald Cowen in 2002.

Harvey went on again in an incredible 200 Backstroke swim in a time of 2:01.95, surpassing another Bermuda OPEN Age Group Record of 2:04.59 set by Jason Mastalir in 2009.

Great swimming didn’t stop there as four members of the Harbour squad achieved Senior Gold Squad Qualifying Times as well. Nathan Burrill, Agathe Candillon, Dana Hawitt and Ava Pedro all achieved times in multiple swims across sessions.

“The swimmers all did extremely well, considering they have only been back in the pool for six weeks,” Shona Palmer, Harbour Swim Club Head Coach commented. “I’m especially proud of their performances as although their season ended early due to Covid-19, they have returned to the pool with fantastic focus and hard work, which led to several personal bests.”

Steve Castree, Harbour President, added, “With so many swimmers in each age group it is fantastic to see such a high quality and competitive meet after a spate of ocean based training. The swimmers and club look forward to a new season in September and taking on more overseas challenges in the 2020-21 season as the swimmers strive to continue their rapid and impressive improvement.”
