Harbour Swimming Club Announce Docksider Open 2016

IslandStats.com
Harbour Swimming Club has announced the 2016 Docksider Harbour Open to be held at the National Sports Center on Friday, June 24th 2016.

This event is open to all swimmers with participants anticipated from all local clubs as well as the burgeoning Masters swimming programme.

Stephen Castree, Harbour President, said, “The Harbour Open Meet is a pre summer vacation meet, designed to give the swimmers one last chance to make some improvements before the summer break and also to allow those representing Bermuda at the upcoming CISC championships to have a last race in a long course pool prior to departing.

“It is a competitive swimming meet, but also a celebration of the sport and the successful season we have had from all involved with Bermuda swimming.”

The meet is an open meet and is sanctioned by the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association [‘BASA’]. This is open to all swimmers, of all ages, from any country and has been promoted into several US East Coast Clubs who hope to place the meet on their calendars for future years.

Reed Young, of the event sponsor, Docksider, commented, “Docksider has been associated with Harbour Swimming Club for many years and is proud to support this event. Swimming is a fantastic sport to develop life skills through the teamwork and dedication required to succeed.

“The National Sports Centre is a fantastic venue and we look forward to watching this meet grow in the coming years and assist in bringing more visitors to the Island to compete in the meet.’

Nick Strong, President of BASA, stated, “In addition to the Docksider Harbour Open we are also holding the annual Trunk Island Swim on Sunday 26th.

“By having the two together, and with the planned increases in schedule for 2017, this represents a great opportunity for swimming to support the sports tourism initiatives by bringing in age group swimming clubs as well as Masters swimmers to participate in the event, making it a fast, and fun, event.”

Harbour continues to grow its membership, with sessions every day of the week – interested swimmers should contact Ally Harvey at acam@logic.bm. Anyone interested in participating in Harbour Open can enter via their club or at racedayworld.com where entries can also be made for the Trunk Island Swim.
