CCCAN Team Returns

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships team arrived back at the LF Wade International Airport.

With Three Gold Medals, One Silver Medal, CCCAN Records Broken, National Records Broken and Personal Best times, Bermuda’s young swimmers took time to speak with the online media that was onhand to congratulate them for representing ALL OF BERMUDA.

On the final day of CCCAN 2015 Bermuda had 5 swims in the Finals. Jesse Washington and Maddy Moore both qualified in the 100 Freestyle and 50 Butterfly while Ashley Irby made it in the 100 Freestyle.

In the 100 Freestyle Moore built a commanding lead in for the first 80 meters before getting caught from a swimmer in the last 10 meters but she held them off for her Gold Medal. Irby had a good finals finishing 8th, Washington lowered his record in the 100 Freestyle to 53.29 and finished 5th.

In the 50 Butterfly Moore slipped off the blocks which put her behind the field to start the race and although she battled back it was too much to make up so she finished 4th and out of the medals. Washington was Bermuda’s last swim of the meet and he had a strong finals swimming just outside his best time and finishing 6th.

National coach Ben Smith said, “We are very proud of this group of 8 young swimmers who performed well against strong competition over 5 days. They learned more about racing and staying fast throughout the meet that will help them in the future.”
