Day One Carifta Swimming Championships 2015

Emma Harvey won 1 Gold & 2 Silver Medals

The 30th Carifta Swimming Championships got underway in Barbados with a National Record Broken, Swimmers reaching Finals and swimming Personal Best times.

Nine Medals were won on Day One, Tyler Mazurek won a Silver Medal during the 15-17 Boys 1500m Freestyle touching the wall in a time of 16:33.75 which is a Bermuda National Record.

Emma Harvey and Madelyn Moore finished first and second during the 13-14 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke Finals capturing Gold and Silver, Harvey swam a Personal best time of 31.30, while Moore touched the wall clocking 31.62.

Harvey also claimed a Silver Medal in the 13-14 Girls 100 Meter Butterfly Finals clocking a time of 1:05.29 and Vanessa Esposito won the Bronze Medal competing in the 15-17 Girls 100 Meter Butterfly Finals clocking 1:07.63.

The team of Ashley Irby, Megan Lau, Emma Harvey and Maddy Moore captured the Silver Medal competing in the 13-14 Girls 4X100m Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:08.27.

Emma Harvey and Madelyn Moore finished first and second during the 13-14 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke Preliminaries, Harvey swam a Personal best time of 31.63, while Moore touched the wall clocking 31.87, Shannon Hassell reached the 15-17 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke with the seventh fastest time of 32.89.

Harvey will also compete in the 13-14 Girls 100 Meter Butterfly Final after finishing second with a time of 1:06.94, Ashley Irby swam a Personal Best 1:11.42 but finished 12th, Bermuda will be represented in the 15-17 Girls 100 Meter Butterfly Final after Vanessa Esposito finished 4th with a Personal Best time of 1:08.03.

The Bermuda 13-14 Girls 400 Meter Freestyle Relay team had the fastest Preliminary time of 4:10.53, while the 15-17 Boys 400 Meter Freestyle Relay team will also take a place in the Final after recording the 4th fastest time of 3:42.74.

Holly Bruton finished 13th during the 11-12 Girls 200 Meter Breaststroke with a time of 3:27.14, while Keagan Woolley finished 11th in the 11-12 Boys 200 Meter Breaststroke with a Personal Best time of 3:06.66. Megan Lau touched the wall with the 12th fastest time of 3:04.29 competing in the 13-14 Girls 200 Meter Breaststroke.

During the 15-17 Boys 200 Meter Breaststroke Philip Hagen clocked a Personal Best time of 2:43.16 finishing 10th, while three places back was Peter Kiernan with a Personal Best time of 2:47.34. Skyler Powell clocked a Personal best time of 36.77 on her way to finishing 15th in the 11-12 Girls 50 Meter Backstroke, while Holly Bruton finished 18th with a Personal best time of 37.07.

In the 11-12 Boys 50 Meter Backstroke, Jack Harvey clocked a Personal Best time of 35.49 finishing 17th, while Keagan Woolley finished 21st with a time of 38.00. Ethan Daley clocked a Personal Best time of 32.09 finishing 17th in the 13-14 Boys 50 Meter Backstroke, while during the 15-17 Boys 50 Meter Backstroke Jesse Washington finished 11th with a time of 29.52, while Peter Kiernan finished 23rd with a Personal Best time of 32.44.

Skyler Powell finished 12th taking part in the 11-12 Girls 100 LC Meter Butterfly with a Personal Best time of 1:17.28, while Jack Harvey finished 16th competing in the 11-12 Boys 100 Meter Butterfly with a time of 1:19.70. Ethan Daley’s Personal Best time of 1:06.17 saw him finish 17th in the 13-14 Boys 100 Meter Butterfly, while during the 15-17 Boys 100 Meter Butterfly Jesse Washington finished 13th with a time of 1:00.88 and Tyler Mazurek finished 16th with a Personal Best time of 1:02.23.
