www.islandstats.com can confirm that Bermuda’s match on Friday, June 4th, 2021 will be staged at the Dr. Ir. Franklin Essed Stadium in Suriname.
Recently, a story was posted in Bermuda drawing attention to the state of the Corona Virus in Suriname and the fact that it is worse than Bermuda, and it may be a source of discontent for the Bermuda Government in days to come as it relates to Football.
The question would be how and why?
The fact is, the status in Suriname is actually very similar to Bermuda. They have a community spread and a CDC rating of Level 4 just as we do. Obviously, they have more people so the figures look far worse.
However while Bermuda was going through their worst month of people losing their lives due to the virus, the Bermuda Government allowed the SailGP event to go ahead but never once did the organization that reported the Bermuda Government would be facing a bit of discontent over the Football team express any concern regarding the sailing.
Now before everyone thinks islandstats.com was against SailGP, that was not the case. The SailGP was a stellar spectacle that showcased Bermuda to a global audience and we look forward to Bermuda hosting for many years. Islandstats.com asked questions to the Premier and Government regarding the fact that Bermudians were restricted to the home, while others were allowed to be free, once again we are just pointing out the facts of what actually took place.
The source of the story, showed full support for a sporting event that saw not one Bermudian compete, and continues to highlight the event, but the minute a local sport is involved the circumstances of delivery in the reporting changes dramatically.
