Youth Commonwealth Spotlight - Sakari Famous

www.islandstats.com will be running a feature on the athletes selected to represent Bermuda during the upcoming Youth Commonwealth Games, today we continue with Track & Field athlete Sakari Famous.

Date of Birth: February 10 2017

Sport: Athletics - High Jump

Q.
What is something many people don’t know about you?

A. I like videography and do it as a hobby.

Q. How did you first get involved in your Sport?

A.
When I lived in the Bahamas at 9 yrs old, I was invited to a track team by my P.E. teacher.

Q. Did you have a particular Sports idol?

A.
Vashti Cunningham, a professional High Jumper, is someone I look up to.

Q. When did you realize that you wanted Compete Internationally?

A.
After I competed in my first CARIFTA Games I knew that I wanted to always compete on the International stage!

Q. What do you feel needs the most improvement?

A.
My ‘drive up’ and my lean into the bar need the most improvement.

Q. Which do you feel needs the least improvement?

A.
My nutrition needs the least improvement.

Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of?

A.
Winning my first medal in the 2013 CARIFTA Games.

Q. What are your goals for the rest of Year?

A.
To have a consistent ‘approach’ and stay positive as I attempt to reach my height goals.

Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you?

A.
I train 4 times a week ( Monday to Thursday). Two of those days we normally work on the long and short approach, the other days we work on our technique and explosive power.

Q. Is this your first Youth Commonwealth Games?

A.
Yes, this is my first Youth Commonwealth Games, and I’m excited to compete in my first world competition!

Q. What do you do when you’re not taking part in your Sport?

A.
I like to rest!! However, on hot days I love going swimming with my family or catch up on my favorite TV shows.
