Bermuda Athletes began competing on Day One of the Natwest Island Games in Gotland. On Day One, Bermuda was only in One Medal event and that was the Men's Individual Triathlon.
BADMINTON
Bermuda’s Badminton team got off to a rough start falling 5-0 to Jersey. Denzel Simons went down in straight games 21 - 4, 21 - 7 to Alexander Hutchings in the Men’s Singles match, in the Ladies Singles match Darelyn Legaspi went down 2-0 to Emily Temple-Redshaw 21 - 5, 21 - 5. Bermuda’s Men's Doubles of Mark Haugen and David Wellman went down 21 - 8, 21 - 6 to Matthew Bignell and Alexander Hutchings, while Rowena Cespedes and Legaspi went down 21 - 4, 21 - 9 in their Ladies' Doubles match against Marilisa Garnier and Lindsey Woodward. The Mixed Doubles match saw Rowena Cespedes and Danial Hughes fall 21 - 13, 21 - 4 to Mark Constable and Elise Dixon.
Bermuda then went down 4 - 1 to Gibraltar, Bermuda’s lone victory came during the Mixed Doubles, with Danial Hughes and Rowena Cespedes defeating Henry Archer and Alison Jessen in straight games 21-18, 21-15.
TRACK & FIELD
Taahira Butterfield has Qualified for the Women’s 100m Semi-Finals after she won Heat 1 clocking a time of 12.43.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Ian Bucci and Kazimierz Orlowski got Bermuda off to a winning start after they defeated Christopher Hooper and Daniel Smith from the Isle of Man in straight games 21-14, 21-11.
TENNIS
Gavin Manders gave Bermuda a 1 - 0 lead when he defeated his Isle of Man opponent Sean Drewry in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
Sam Butler then ended the match as a contest when he defeated Mark Chinn in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to earn Bermuda the 2 - 0 win.
TRIATHLON
Tucker Murphy finished 28th in the Men’s Individual Triathlon stopping the clock in a time of 1:56:16.8. Murphy clocked a time of 10:16.5 during the Swim, he was then clocked at 1:04:16.8 on the Bike Course before closing out with a time of 39:24.0 on the Run Course.
VOLLEYBALL
Bermuda’s Women’s Volleyball team got off to a flying start with a 3-1 win over Greenland, Bermuda went down 25 - 22 in the first game, but they levelled the match at 1 - 1 when they won the second game 25 - 19, Bermuda would take a 2 - 1 lead when they won the third game 25 - 10, before closing the match out winning the fourth game 25 - 14.
The Men’s Volleyball team were handed a 3 - 1 defeat by Jersey, Jersey won the first match 31 - 29, before taking a 2 - 0 lead winning the second game 25 - 18. Bermuda would get back into the match winning the third game 25 - 23, but Jersey would close out the match winning the fourth game 25 - 16.
