Bermuda's Zeiko Lewis Picked 17th by New York Red Bulls

IslandStats.com
Bermuda International Zeiko Lewis has been drafted by the New York Red Bulls as the 17th pick in the Draft

The New York Red Bulls drafted midfielder Lewis from Boston College with the 17th pick of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. The Bermuda international matches the team’s overall style as a fast midfield player that can also play on the wings.

“I’d like to thank New York Red Bulls for drafting me,” said Lewis after his selection. “Just want to thank everyone that’s got me here. Being selected this late isn’t the end of the world. I just makes me have to show everybody that I’ve got to prove you guys wrong for drafting me this late.”

Lewis played three years for Boston College Eagles, scoring 18 goals in 73 appearances. Before that he also played in his home country of Bermuda with the Bermuda Hogges and Real Boston Rams. The 21-year old has a ton of confidence and will need it when battling through a very competitive New York midfield.

“Clearly he has personality,” said Red Bulls Head Coach Jesse Marsch. “When you look at his overall athleticism along with his soccer package, his ability to run, his ability to close things down, it naturally fits into the style that we play. We ranked him in the top 10 in the draft and to get him at 17 we feel very fortunate.”
