CARIFTA Swimming Championships Spotlight on Ashley Irby

Islandstats.com will begin the countdown to the CARIFTA Swimming Championships with a Spotlight on each Athlete that will represent Bermuda.

Today we bring you Ashley Irby.

Q. Do you have a particular swimming idol?

A.
I have two idols, Roy-Allan Burch and Missy Franklin.

Q. When did you realize that you wanted to keep swimming?

A.
I realized I wanted to keep swimming when I was ten because that was when I started getting personal best and breaking the Freestyle Records.

Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline?

A.
My strongest stroke is Freestyle and my best Freestyle events are the 100 and 200m.

Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement?

A.
The stroke that needs the most improvement for me is definitely Breaststroke.

Q. What one moment in Swimming to date are you most proud of?

A.
In Carifta 2014, I won the Gold Medal in the 200m Freestyle.

Q. What is your favorite Meal?

A.
My mom’s Shepard’s Pie.

Q. What are your goals for 2015?

A.
My goals are too get 1 minute or under in the 100m Freestyle. I also would like to get more personal bests at Carifta and make some finals..

Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you?

A.
I swim 6 days a week with Sunday off. On Tuesday and Thursday I swim twice.

Q. Something many people don’t know about you?

A.
My favorite color is blue and I like ad use the word ‘Coolio’.

Q. What do you do when you’re not swimming?

A.
When I am not swimming I run, hang out with my friends and do homework.
