NATHAN TROTT

Nathan Trott was an unused substitute as a spirited second-half effort from his West Ham United teammates came up just short as Newcastle grab a win that will likely keep them in the Premier League.

West Ham United created their own mountain to climb by scoring an own-goal in the 36th minute, Craig Dawson took out Joelinton on halfway line, the play was allowed to go on, Saint-Maximin shot was saved by Łukasz Marek Fabiański but Issa Diop got in the way and the ball somehow ended up in the net.

The referee then sent Dawson off for a second bookable offense.

Joelinton would double the Sheffield Wednesday lead in the 41st minute from a goalkeeping error to take a 2 – 0 lead at half-time.

In the 73rd minute, West Ham United was back in the game, Jesse Lingard took a quick throw-in on the left and Jarrod Bowen was left with acres of space to cross left-footed. Diop timed his run superbly and headed down and past Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Then, eight minutes later, the referee was called across to his VAR screen to judge a handball call against Ciaran Clark, with the result that the visitors were awarded a penalty.

Lingard stepped up after a long delay for Clark to receive treatment to dispatch a nerveless penalty in off the inside of the left-hand post.

But just as West Ham United thought their efforts would gain reward, Newcastle’s Joe Willock stepped off the bench to send a powerful header beyond Fabiański and send them home pointless.

NAHKI WELLS

Nahki Wells and his Bristol City teammates fought back with a late goal to draw 1 – 1 with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Julian Börner gave Sheffield United the lead in the 4th minute, with Bristol City’s chances of getting a quick equalizer was shattered in the 21st minute when a penalty was awarded to Sheffield Wednesday and Henri Lansbury was shown a red card.

Bristol City was given a lifeline when Daniel Bentley dove to his right and saved Barry Bannan's penalty.

Bristol City would get their all-important equalizer in the 87th minute when some lovely footwork from Tyreeq Bakinson who fired the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

JUSTIN DONAWA

Justin Donawa was an unused substitute as his Solihull Moors teammates tasted defeat for the first time in five games as they lost 3-2 at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Jordan Cranston’s free-kick opener gave Solihull the perfect start but George Saunder’s close-range finish and Ángelo Balanta’s penalty ensured Dagenham & Redbridge had a half-time lead.

But it was Matt Robinson’s goal immediately after the break that proved to be the telling blow Solihull who finished the game with 10 men as Tyrone Williams was dismissed.

Substitute Adam Rooney did pounce on a loose header from Mauro Vilhete to prod home late on for Solihull but it proved a consolation for Donawa’s teammates.

JONTE SMITH

Jonte Smith would come off the bench, but he could not prevent Woking from going down 3 – 2 to Gillingham.

Woking took the lead in the 23rd minute when Max Kretzschmar scored, the lead was then doubled in the 55th minute when Josh Davison scored.

But four minutes later Gillingham began their comeback as Dominic Samuel scored, Samuel would then draw the team's level in the 68th minute with his second goal of the game, and then in the 79th minute, Gillingham would complete the comeback when they got the winner from Vadaine Oliver.
