Josh Koroma looked to have clinched a crucial three points for his side, but Wells fired home a penalty deep into added time for his third goal in as many days.
Down 1 – 0, Bristol City continued to push hard into the final periods of the game and were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty deep into added time, for a handball by Oliver Turton.
Wells stepped up and fired past Nicholls to clinch a point for City at the death.
