CFU MLS Combine Selection & Smith Signs with Pride

IslandStats.com
Following an inquiry to the Bermuda Football Association, www.islandstats.com is waiting to find out who has been selected by the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) to represent the Island at the upcoming Caribbean Football Union (CFU)/Major League Soccer (MLS) Combine.

The third consecutive MLS sponsored Caribbean Football Union Combine is being held across three countries instead of one central venue as in previous years, it started in St. Kitts December 13th – 16th. The other venues are Curacao, December 17th – 20th and Martinique, January 1st – 4th.

Twenty-four players have been invited to each venue, representing a marked increase in the number of elite players from the Caribbean who will vie to be among those selected to attend the annual Addidas MLS Player Combine in Florida from January 8th -13th , 2016.

In the original press release by the Caribbean Football Union on December 8th, it stated that Bermuda was due to send players to Curacao, which is due to start tomorrow, however this now looks as if it will not happen.

The MLS Combine provides an opportunity for players within the Caribbean Football Union Member Associations to showcase their skills in front of professional scouts.

www.islandstats.com now awaits a press release from the Bermuda Football Association to name the play or players selected.

Meanwhile, the Orlando Pride announced Khano Smith has joined the franchise as an Assistant Coach.

Smith, 34, is a six-year MLS veteran. He made more than 100 appearances for the New England Revolution and also played for the Bermuda National Team.

“Khano comes to us with tremendous experience across many levels, including professional play, youth development and broadcasting,” Orlando Pride coach Tom Sermanni said in a statement. “His experiences on and off the field are an important piece of the puzzle to help prepare the team for a positive 2016 season.”

Smith was an assistant last season with the New Hampshire University Men's Soccer team and also worked for the Revolution as a youth development player coordinator and scout.
