Wells-Simons-Lambe English Leagues Round Up

NAHKI WELLS

Wolves striker Benik Afobe grabbed two goals to help seal a 3-0 Sky Bet Championship win over Nahki Wells and his Huddersfield teammates at Molineux.

Afobe ended his four-game goal drought with a second-half double after Kevin McDonald, who had rescued a point with an injury time strike at Preston last weekend, gave Wolves a 23rd minute lead.

The win saw Wolves extend their unbeaten run in the league to four games.

Huddersfield's dismal day was summed up nine minutes from time when substitute Wells' shot looked to be goalbound only for the impressive Martinez to tip it away.

RAI SIMONS

Dan Gardner struck in both halves as Rai Simons and his Chesterfield teammates ended a run of three defeats with a 2-1 victory at basement club Crewe.

Dean Saunders' side fended off a fightback from Crewe, which saw skipper David Fox cancel out Gardner's opener, to seal victory after the break.

Simons who started his first match set up Chesterfield’s opener when he pulled the ball back across goal, Gardner squeezed his shot inside the post via a deflection off a defender.

A minute earlier great work from Simons, as he picked up the ball 45 yards out, ran forward and rounded two men, shot from an angle but it was saved by the keeper.

REGGIE LAMBE

Dagenham & Redbridge are still on the lookout for a first home win after blowing a two-goal lead to lose 4-3 to Reggie Lambe and his Mansfield Town teammates in their Sky Bet League Two match.

Mansfield took the lead in the sixth minute through a wonder strike from left back Malvind Benning, who volleyed home from 20 yards.

But Dagenham & Redbridge responded quickly as they drew level through Matt McClure in the eighth minute, shooting home from 25 yards.

Ashley Chambers then fired Dagenham ahead in the 30th minute as his shot from 10 yards was deflected past Brian Jensen.

Chambers soon netted his second, latching on to a long ball forward in the 32nd minute before slotting home from just inside the box.

The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 37th minute when Clevid Dikamona tripped Matt Green who punished the home side when he converted the spot kick.

The second half stagnated somewhat but the Mansfield drew level with a powerful header from Krystian Pearce in the 81st minute.

They went on to claim victory when Adi Yusuff slotted past Liam O'Brien from a tight angle in the 86th minute.
