Maycock Sets the Pace as National Bowling Trials Underway

Leader after Two Rounds
IslandStats.com
David Maycock has established a commanding early lead as the quest for a place in Team Bermuda officially commenced with the opening rounds of the 2026 National Championship and Selection Trials.

A total of sixteen of the island’s elite bowlers have taken to the lanes for what promises to be a grueling marathon of technical skill and endurance. With the stakes high—including qualification for the CAC Games in Santo Domingo and the IBF World Cup in Munich—the competition has been fierce from the first frame.

David Maycock has emerged as the man to beat after a clinical display across the first two rounds. He currently sits at the summit of the standings with an impressive total of 2,456 pins.

Maycock’s consistency has been his hallmark, headlined by a high game of 244. Despite the challenging professional oil patterns designed to test the versatility of the field, he has managed to keep his composure, even recovering from a low game of 150 to maintain his lead. It follows a strong opening round where he led the field with 1,337 pins, signaling his intent to reclaim the national crown.

Sitting in second place is LeVinc Samuels, who has kept the pressure on the leader with a total pinfall of 2,384. Samuels produced one of the most explosive performances of the weekend, firing a blistering 266—the highest single game of the top three thus far. However, the punishing nature of the lane conditions was evident as he also navigated a low of 146.

Lamar Richardson remains firmly in the hunt for a podium spot, currently occupying third place with ,321 pins. Richardson, a veteran of the national squad, showcased his scoring potential with a high game of 245, matching Samuels’ low of 146 during a challenging stretch.

The selection trials are far from over, with participants set to bowl a total of 30 games across five distinct rounds. After the first round, Dennis Joell had occupied the third-place spot with 1,189 pins, highlighting just how quickly the leaderboard can shift as the bowlers move through different lane patterns.

The competition will resume for Rounds 3 and 4 at the end of the month, before the final national champion is crowned on February 8th. The top finishers will not only secure gold, silver, and bronze medals but will also form the core of the Bermuda team for a busy international summer campaign.
