The International Bowling Federation (IBF) World Bowling Championships got underway in China, with the Bermuda National Team facing tough international competition across the Men's Singles event on Day One. Despite spirited performances, no Bermudian bowler advanced to the next round.
The highest finish for the Bermuda contingent came in the Men's Singles Squad 1 Division. Dennis Joell delivered a consistent performance to finish 28th overall, accumulating a total pin count of 1211. Joell's best game came in his second outing, where he bowled a strong 247. Also competing in Squad 1, Anthony Hayward finished 43rd with a total of 1149 pins, achieving his best game score of 202 in his opening run.
In the Squad 2 Division, Michael Honore recorded a total pin count of 1116, finishing 49th. Honore saved his best for last, achieving a score of 201 in his final game. Veteran bowler David Maycock finished 56th in the same squad with a total of 1045 pins. Maycock's best performance was his second game, where he posted a score of 205.
The final squad saw two more Bermudians take to the lanes. Lamar Richardson finished 53rd in the Squad 3 Division with a total of 1118 pins. His highest score of 245 came in his fifth game, showcasing his potential for high-scoring runs. Dayvon Tucker finished 56th, accumulating 1051 pins with a high score of 185, which he achieved twice.
While none of the Bermuda bowlers advanced to Round 2, the team now turns its focus to the remaining events in the World Championships.
