The Bermuda National Bowling team depart the island this week for the International Bowling Federation (IBF) World Bowling Championships in Hong Kong China.
The six men team of Lamar Richardson, Dayvon Tucker, Dennis Joell, Michael Honore, David Maycock and Anthony Hayward will be against the best bowlers in the world.
Team Bermuda will be very familiar with the host centre, Top Bowl as three members of the team also participated at the same venue early this year during the IBF Bowling World Cup, at that event Bermuda made it to the round of 16 before losing to Saudi Arabia in the round of 16. Team Bermuda will be looking to hold this to their advantage as three members of the team are very familiar with this center having competed there only 10 months ago.
All members of the team have been busy the last few months sharpening up their games, preparing for these championships and practicing on the championships pattern so they can better prepare for the large task at hand. Team Bermuda will be up against strong favorites, Team USA, Team Malaysia and Team Sweden to name a few of the favorites leading up to this prestigious event. At the World Cup back in January’s Team Bermuda defeated tournament winners Malaysia 2-1 but are very aware that the task at hand will be tough but are extremely confident they will cause another upset.
All members of the team have a wealth of experience bowling internationally as Richardson, Maycock, Tucker and Joell all have participated in previous world championships, Honore and Hayward will be making their World Championships debut.
Team Bermuda will use these championships as they prepare for next summer’s CAC Games in the Dominican Republic which they have already qualified for.
