The BPGA Fritz Reiter Match Play Championship tournament will be decided at Belmont Hills tomorrow when Scott Roy takes on Dwayne Pearman.
Roy and Pearman will Tee Off at 9:00am tomorrow morning for their first 18 holes of play before heading out about 1:0pm for their second and Final Round.
For those of you waiting for the PGA Grand Slam to go and watch good golf, all I can say is "Sorry you missed one of the best matches Bermuda has seen in a while".
The featured match of the day was always going to be Port Royal Golf Pro Dwayne Pearman Vs Eric West, and they did not disappoint. From the very first hole it was clear birdies were not always guaranteed to win holes. West lipped out a 25 foot putt for Eagle on the 1st hole and had to settle for a half with birdies. West kept things even with a good 12 foot par putt on the 2nd but missed a 5 foot for Birdie on the 3rd to draw first blood. However West did take the first lead of the day on the 4th with a 5 foot Birdie putt but it turned out this would be his only lead of the day.
Pearman's putter finally woke up on the 5th hole with a 25 foot Birdie to square the match and followed it with birdies on 6th, 8th and 9th holes to end the front nine 2 up on the match. West just could roll enough putts in the hole and when he did they were mostly halved by Pearman's hot putter.
The back 9 continued the same way with West missing a Birdie opportunity on the 10th to pull a hole back, only to have Pearman Birdie the 11th and Eagle the 12th to take a 4up lead.
Luck continued to elude West when his Birdie chip on the 13th somehow stayed out of the hole and his 90 yard second shot on the par four 14th lipped the hole which would end up halved through Pearman's 7 foot Birdie putt. 4up and four to play Pearman just had to par the 15th for a half and the 4 & 3 win. For those of you keeping score through 15 hole West was -4 but was eclipsed by Pearman’s -8 which included 7 Birdies and an Eagle.
The other Semi final match was a somewhat tense affair with not only the pressure of a finals appearance on the line but it pitted brother against brother. Scott and Steven Roy had to balance routing for and against each other and it showed in the golf at the beginning. Par seemed safe to win holes and it was a back and forth match with Scott Toy taking a one up lead after the front 9 and with Birdies on the 12th and 13th took control of the match to win 4 & 3.
Tomorrow will also see the rest of the field will be playing a medal round at 12:30pm with the presentation at Belmont following the match.
