Jenaya Wade-Fray’s Great Britain Standard Life Women's coach Tom Maher was delighted his side won their first EuroBasket qualifier of the season with a 72-63 victory in Germany yesterday.
"Obviously we kept them to 63 points, doing this you expect to win" said Maher.
"We had a really good start and down the stretch, even though we couldn't make any foul shots, we didn't toss the ball away."
Maher had praise for two of his younger players, but singled out the team's veteran as the yet to the victory:
"It's a really great experience for our young team, once again Azania Stewart competed really well and Wade-Fray made a couple of shots down the stretch. But Natalie Stafford was our MVP."
Forward Julie Page led the British team with 20 points and five rebounds, and she was delighted with the victory: "We bounced back after the tough loss at home" she said.
"Today, we played more like a team and were patient enough. It was important to stay mentally focused after the first game. It is always tough to start with a loss at home and then travel. We are very happy that we won the game against a very competitive German team."
Wade-Fray poured in eight points and had three assists.
With the Slovak Republic hammering Ukraine 82-53 on Tuesday evening, GB are now joint second in Group B of EuroBasket, holding a 1 - 1 record that sees them level with Germany.
