The Phoenix Junior Match Play Tournament kicked off today at Belmont Hills Golf Club in hot and sticky conditions. A total of 23 juniors teed up today in the qualifying round to see where they will be seeded for the rest of week with the format switching to match play. The juniors are placed into two divisions; 13-18 year old, Blue Tee Group and the 12 and Under Red Tee Group. The 13-18 year olds will be further divided to have the top eight players compete in the Championship flight. .
13-18 years - BLUE TEE GROUP
Defending Match Play Champion Ryan Benevides opted not to qualify therefore giving him automatic first place seeding for tomorrow’s first round of match play. Former Champion Ryan Roberts earns himself the number two seed and medalist after posting a 2 over 72. Damian Palanyandi posted a 4 over 74 earning him the number 3 position heading into tomorrow’s first round of Match play.
12 & Under - RED TEE GROUP
Thomas Allkins is the medalist in this group after posting a respectable 89 and earning himself the number one seed position heading into tomorrow’s match play tournament. 2nd Seed goes to Lochlan Broadley who posted a 94. This should be an interesting group as the players are very competitive. Elizabeth Parsons is the only female in the tournament and looks to hand out a few upsets on the way.
