The Bermuda's Brazilian Soccer School recently visited the Paget Primary School as guest speakers during their monthly PTA meetings
BBSS CEO Calvin Blankendal was the guest speaker and reflected on the role Education, Football and sports plays in each of our communities. The objective was to instill the importance of leading a healthy and balanced life and addressing negative behavior or below average academic results through; counseling, family meetings, tutors and the involvement of positive role models
Football and Education
Blankendal provided each family in the audience with a sheet of players (photos only) and the President of their country. Each family was asked to take one minute and identify as many persons as they could. As you may have imagined, the majority were able to identify more players then the Presidents of each respective nation.
The exercise was to highlight how sports can bring families and teachers closers to their children and students. Blankendal advanced the exercise to involve history, language, geography, math and culture. Blankendal stressed the need for parents not to punish their child(ren) by taking the sport of their choice away from them.
Investing in the Future
A comparison was made between investing in a home and education; both were lifelong goals which required constant attention and financial support. The only difference was education could be free if the student was an outstanding academic or excellent student athlete such as football player, track star etc.
Bermuda’s Brazilian Soccer School
The Assembly concluded with BBSS presenting a 5 minute DVD on Bermuda’s Brazilian Soccer School and their training methodology. CEO Blankendal thanked the school for having invited Bermuda's Brazilian Soccer School, as this is one of BBSS mandates to give back to the community.
