The winds at the Heron Bay Golf Club picked up as the day progressed making the 6,500 yard layout a true test for some of the world’s top ranked amateurs during the first round of the Dixie Women’s Amateur Championships in Florida.
Tariqah Walikraam began her first round shooting 17-over par 89 to finish the day T66th, while English Amateur Champion Holly Clyburn bested the field’s average score by 10 strokes firing a 5 under par 67. Just two strokes back is the world’s #1 amateur and 2007 Dixie Champion Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs Florida. Holly’s hole in one on the par 3, 150 yard 5th hole was the difference maker between the two.
